“On august 6, 1940, Estonia, in accordance with the wishes of its people, was admitted to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The red flag of freedom was hoisted over the Pikk Hermann Tower. Tallinn became the capital of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic. In our days, Pikk Hermann has the honour of bearing the State Flag of the Estonian Soviet Socialist Republic. As for the castle, it now houses the Council of Ministers of the ESSR.”
